Our aim is to increase income and well-being for farmers and poor communities in Vietnam and the regions through enhancing their knowledges and skills to have better access to information and market. Our team focuses on the economic research and outreach activities including sector and sub-sector analysis, value chain analysis, business planning and start-up for farmers and small business households. We are also working on agricultural policy analysis toward a responsible and participatory policy making process, sustainable growth and inequality elimination. Academic and applied research has been conducted by our team to foster local understanding and outreach activities in Vietnam and the region in support of farmers to raise their voices, facilitate their participation and improve their benefit sharing for better livelihoods and rights.
What we have done: Our team has analyzed and reviewed various national policies and plans on agriculture and rural development including land-use policies in agriculture, state farm development reform, and agribusiness expansion. Members of the team are involved in various sub-sector and value chain analyses in Vietnam and the region. We also support international and local NGOs in sub-sectors analysis and pick up the potential sectors for their interventions. Capacity building and training have been done in a range of topics such as business planning, value chain development, market analysis, financial literacy for small households.
The following research themes are our core in 2012 onward:
Agriculture policy reform: Conducting rigorous assessment of the agriculture policy effectiveness and impacts to contribute policy implication for future agriculture policies making.
Livelihood and market for farmers: Deploying training and capacity building, experiment and intervention programs to selected local communities to build up champions and success stories for mindset changes and actions from farmers, government and donors.
Value chain analysis: Designing and implementing value chain analyses across the key agricultural sectors.
Land-use right reform: Investigating land grab issues as well as right and power of farmers in real life and in the course of land-use right reform and industrialization process.
